Sunday morning at 3 a.m., two men were declared dead after a Miami-Dade transit bus driver opened fire after a heated argument. The Miami Gardens police responded to the dispute and arrived at the scene before receiving an urgent call regarding a disturbance on the bus. Immediately, the victims were transported to Aventura Hospital and later declared dead.
Passengers were interviewed and deduced that six shots were fired at the scene, and the bus wasn’t in motion when the argument occurred. The city police department is still investigating why the driver decided to shoot the passengers in the first place.
Many passengers were shocked that public transit drivers were authorized to carry a personal weapon, but was later confirmed by a Miami-Dade Department of Transportation spokesperson that transit operations were not permitted to carry weapons while on duty. The identities of the three men remain confidential and hidden while the police took in the bus driver for questioning.
The safety of Miami cities and neighborhood frightened many citizens and passengers of the bus. The quality of one’s lifestyle shifted as a result of this incident and presents the underly question: who else is carrying a gun and when might another incident happen?
Miami Gardens Police’s Homicide Unit continues to investigate the situation, however, no detectives have announced charges to any of the parties as of now. Some passengers highlighted that the fight was between a group of black males, yet the argument still hasn’t been released.
