President Donald Trump could pass as a comedian. As if the ABC interview wasn’t another glaring exposure of Trump’s inability to know what his actual job is. When Terry Moran, the interviewer asked him what the Declaration of Independence meant to him, one of the most important founding documents in history, he literally said it’s about “love and respect.” If I remember correctly, this document was about the USA divorcing itself from Great Britain and forming the very principles of freedom that Donald Trump is stepping on today.

Today, Donald Trump yet again, showed us the knowledge of his administration. Donald Trump was asked if immigrants deserve due process. “I don’t know. I’m not, not a lawyer.” I thought that the whole point of the presidency was to uphold the Constitution and that the same Constitution guarantees due process…? Something that was taught in our classrooms since way back when.

Donald J. Trump, you have to protect immigrants’ due process because they deserve it. I know, it’s a newsflash. Immigrants deserve due process because they are trying to legally enter, trying to punish them or kick them out of the country isn’t going to help. What is going to help is the US trying to fix the broken immigration system. But let’s be clear. Illegal immigration isn’t right, but immigration is. Who are we to deny the sick and hungry from our lands? Thousands pay their taxes and do the jobs that we rely on in America.

So, instead of ignoring due process and deporting kids with cancer, let’s focus on creating new digital systems to streamline the process. Let’s focus on hiring more officers. That’s the vision that we should create.
