On Wednesday evening, April 9, 2025 a dramatic rescue had occurred when a puppy survived a 100 foot fall into an abandoned silo at Cementland lang. The St. Louis Fire Department acted swiftly and saved the stranded dog.
The dog fell in a partially completed public art installation that City Museum founder Bob Cassilly created. Cassilly died in 2011 during construction, and the spot became a popular spot for people to take pictures and explore. The firefighters were able to calculate that a high-angle rescue was necessary. They lowered a firefighter into the silo until they were able to rescue the puppy. Despite early attempts to act against the firefighters, the puppy overcame its tenseness and was saved. After, the dog was given the nickname “Silo” by the rescue team, who later handed him to animal control officers to do a medical evaluation.
As of right now, Silo is in good spirits and is receiving care from St. Louis Animal Control. The rescue garnered significant attention online, as it was shared on social media. People praised the firefighters’ dedication and heartwarming conclusion to what could have been a tragic incident.
