As the summer rolls around, movie season is coming back to the mainstream. Within a week, six new releases “collected a combined $252 million in the United States and Canada,” according to The New York Times.

This resurgence owes some credit to “A Minecraft Movie,” which grossed $1 billion globally. Now, with titles such as “Lilo & Stitch” and another rendition of the “Mission: Impossible” franchise, records and a new set are bound to be broken.

A significant decline in moviegoing occurred after the coronavirus pandemic, which closed theaters and caused an overall slowdown well into 2025. Streaming services have taken much of the spotlight during this decline in physical movie theater showings. Yet, with the abundance of digital media, many choose to experience movies as they were originally shown–in theaters. Recently, attention has been keen on films, including the controversial “Snow White” rendition, which aired earlier this year.

New blockbuster titles, including “F1: The Movie,” “Karate Kid: Legends,” and “How to Train Your Dragon,” have generated much of the hype around movies to be released later this summer, alongside a fresh set of films from all genres. Although it is yet to be determined the extent to which the popularity of these movies and franchises will produce in terms of satisfaction, movies are trending back, just as they were in years past.
