On Feb. 13, popular rappers Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR released their joint album “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U”
The duo has collaborated many times in the past, given being on the same record label. The record has songs with both artists and some each on their own. With the minimal amount of features, this album feels repetitive and drags on for the whole 1 hour and 13 minute duration.
PARTYNEXTDOOR brings his classic RnB style with, of course, extremely sexually explicit lyricism. With songs like “LASERS” and “WHEN HE’S GONE” having an uncomfortable amount of sexual lyrics.
Aside from this, PARTYNEXTDOOR always offers good, quality flow and melodic singing which is always something to look forward to with new tracks from the artist. I personally enjoyed PARTYNEXTDOOR’s parts of the album more than Drake.
Coming back after a generational beef with one of, if not the best rapper of all time, Kendrick Lamar, Drake took a definite turn with this record. Instead of his more serious singles like “Family Matters,” he is definitely back to his old self with the subject matter on this record.
I can see this record having some notable and stand out songs in the future but right now, I think that the album falls flat. Drake has made better, but on the contrary, PARTYNEXTDOOR was great on this record.
I believe that because of Kendrick Lamar’s stunning performance at the Super Bowl and his winning of five Grammys made this record leave an even bitter taste in my mouth.
