The Oval Invincibles Men continued their fine form with a win against the Trent Rockets in The Hundred on Sunday.
The Invincibles, top of the table for the third consecutive season, went into the finals confident as ever, with leading run-scorer Jordan Cox in breathtaking form.
Meanwhile, the Rockets pushed through a strong season to provide a strong challenge to the reigning champions.
Skipper Sam Curran won the toss and chose to bat to make it a third time in three years batting first in the final match.
After an early wicket of Tawanda Muyeye for 15, the Invincibles continued their batting pedigree with a clinical partnership between Will Jacks and Jordan Cox. Jacks holed out on 28 to a full toss against Marcus Stoinis before it was called a no-ball.
Jacks took full toll, scoring a blistering 72 with a strike rate of 175. Cox’s unfortunate caught behind for 40 led to a mediocre ending to an otherwise strong Invincibles’ innings.
Tom Banton started strong as Joe Root’s scratchy innings led to a brutal early collapse. Twenty-one-year-old Rehan Ahmed fell for a duck in two balls, only for Banton to be dismissed by Nathan Sowter for his third wicket in 10 balls.
The Rockets never got back on track, as regular wickets around Marcus Stoinis meant the Rockets were left staring at a hole too big to climb out of and a 26-run defeat.
