This year, the 2025 Masters ended with Rory McIlroy beating Justin Rose and securing his spot as the sixth golfer in history to complete the Grand Slam–winning the Masters, US Open, The Open Championship, and PGA Championship in the same year.

The game began with McIlroy shooting two double bogies and missing his final putt on the 18th hole, which would have secured his win. However, he was able to make up for it with his back-to-back birdies, putting him in a four-shot lead after his third birdie on the ninth hole. On the first hole, he nailed a double bogey to place him below Bryson DeChambeau after his birdie on the second hole.

McIlroy’s nerves while playing resulted in a bumpy ride with alternating birdies and bogeys, often changing his position on the leaderboard. On the next five holes, McIlroy scored two bogeys and a double bogey on the 13th hole with a par 5 after his ball landed into a lurking creek. As a result, his seven-shot lead bumped him down to tie with Justin Rose.

Consequently, McIlroy missed an eagle putt on the par-5 15th but secured a birdie. While breaking the tie, Rose missed a 20-footer on the 18th and set him 11 under McIlroy on the leaderboard. After his pars and birdies following his previous bogeys, McIlroy landed in a bunker on the 18th and missed a five-foot putt that would’ve sealed his win, but tied him with Rose and led to a playoff to determine the tie-breaker.

Rory McIlroy’s win at the 2025 Masters has secured his spot in history as the sixth winner of the Grand Slam, following Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. McIlroy was seen collapsing on the ground in awe of his win, earning himself the Augusta green jacket with 11 under at Georgia’s Augusta National Golf Club.
