Scottie Scheffler is back on top in the PGA. He finished 5 shots ahead of the next golfer and claimed his third major of his career. It’s another step toward greatness for this amazing golfer.
His victory comes after he was arrested 1 year ago for a traffic violation at Vahalla. Nobody could compete with Scottie’s dominance as the closest competitor, Jon Rahm faltered on the last 3 holes. Not many other well-known pros besides DeChambeau ever came close. Scheffler remained calm and collected throughout the entire round, fighting through a rough back nine.
Scheffler earned 3.4 million dollars and was able to secure his place atop the world rankings. He shot a 71 on the last day and finished at -12 under. He also won last week at the Byron Nelson after shooting a -31 and almost breaking the amount under a player can go on the PGA Tour.
However, the PGA championship ending leaderboard doesn’t show all the action. Scheffler began the day with a 3 stroke lead and then made it a 5 stroke lead. Rahm birdied the 8th and 10th to close the gap and then tied Scheffler at the top after another birdie on 11. Rahm had 13 putts in 11 holes. Golfers usually take 2 putts a hole.
Then, we saw dominance. Scheffler birdied 10 and 14 and then Rahm completely collapsed. On the last 3 holes, Rahm bogeyed 16 and then found water on the 17th. Then Rahm doubled the 18th and finished in 9th place.
Another player that came up short was DeChambeau. He didn’t play enough clean golf to close the lead and is looking forward to defending his US Open total. Rory Mcilory had a stinker of a round and shot +3 in total after Round 4. Not much to say.
In conclusion, Scheffler is tracking to make this his era of dominance. No, wait. This IS his era of dominance. He’s had 3 majors since 2021 and he doesn’t look like he’s stopping.
