President Donald Trump sparks controversy with accusations against Kamala Harris for fees allegedly paid to celebrity stars who backed up Harris during the 2024 election.
Trump claimed Harris’ campaign paid celebrities such as Beyoncé, Oprah Winfrey, and Al Sharpton millions of dollars for appearances. On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “These ridiculous fees were incorrectly stated in the books and records. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PAY FOR AN ENDORSEMENT. IT IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL TO DO SO.”
During the 2024 election cycle, Harris drew criticism for receiving over $165,000 from Beyoncé’s production company, Parkwood Entertainment, for a Houston rally. Winfrey’s production company, Harpo Productions, was paid one million dollars for a live-stream event she helped produce. Additionally, Harris’ campaign team sent $500,000 to Sharpton’s National Action Network.
The Harris campaign has addressed the matter and has denied paying for their endorsements.
Trump made similar claims last December, however, citing different numbers regarding the amount of money paid. Trump claimed at the time that Democrats sent “$11,000,000, $2,000,000, and $500,000 to get the ENDORSEMENT of Beyoncé, Oprah, and Reverend Al.” Now, he claims eleven million dollars to singer Beyoncé, three million dollars for “expenses” to Oprah, and six hundred thousand dollars “to a very low-rated TV anchor,” Al Sharpton.
Winfrey stated that she “was not paid a dime” to participate in the event with Harris but rather had production fees covered by the campaign. Regarding her speech at Harris’ rally, Trump admonished Oprah, saying, “I think Oprah’s become a major divider in our country, and I think frankly she should be ashamed of herself.”
Trump concluded his message on Truth Social with, “Kamala, and all of those that received Endorsement money, BROKE THE LAW. They should all be prosecuted!”
