Max Verstappen is back. After securing the fastest qualifying lap in Suzuka Circuit’s history (Suzuka City, Japan), he cruised to a fourth consecutive win at the venue–a record in its own right.
A thrilling race ensued on Japan’s infamous circuit, notorious for its unforgiving nature and little margin for effort. Yet, the Dutch flag rose again, with Verstappen keeping the two McLaren drivers–Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri–at bay in what can only be described as a masterful performance from the 27-year-old.
In one of the more memorable moments of the race, Lando Norris exited a pit stop narrowly behind Verstappen, attempting to overtake the reigning World Drivers Champion. Verstappen cleverly kept to the right of the track, causing Norris to run through the grass on the edge of the stop and ensuring that Verstappen would maintain his first position.
Yuki Tsunoda had a decent run in his first campaign, placing 12th overall on his home track. Though not the high return some Red Bull fans had been aspiring for, some bright spots emerged in Tsunoda’s first showing in the senior team.
In Verstappen’s capable hands, the RB21 provided the first win for the legendary racer in the season, performing far beyond expectation and generating well-deserved optimism for Red Bull enthusiasts.
As the season continues towards what may well end up as a nail-biting finish for the World Driver’s Champion position (Lando Norris leading with a narrow 62-61 lead over Verstappen), Bahrain comes into focus. Only time will tell where the season will lead–and all are ready for some scintillating moments to come.
